The Unscripted Senses of Worthwhile

Was it worthwhile
Jumping across the rife-struck riverstones,
Barely craving to be foot-dimensioned
Among street talk of the clouded crystal water,
Reaching for a grass flower,
That would be forgotten tomorrow?

Was it worthwhile
Leaning into the grumpy rack of clothes,
Desperately clinging to the remnant sandalwood scent
Of a life that once held them near for the last time
Rid of a coin-clad clue of an atomic cease,
Searching for a pair of ribbon strands,
That have surrendered their purpose?

Was it, with an ounce of risk, worthwhile
Flipping through those napthalene-infested pages,
Searching for the flair of ink strokes they housed once
Beyond the plains and shadows of valet-parked time
Among the skid marks of a hand
That had whispered its secret,
Gliding through those unsent envelopes,
That were never introduced to stamps?

Every lotus-fragmented part of a second
Every sky-draped expanse of an inch
Every neutrino-adorned thought of breath
That even the heart beat skips
And the air ignores.
Each. And. Every.

Rooted Memories

Flying high
Leaping bounds
In the skies
Of the grounds
Across oceans
Pits of fire
Winged winds
Dainty desire

In whiffs of warm cocoa
Wafting through stores
Lotus and fresh linens
Redolent of Yours
In Sandalwood incense
Freshly mowed lawns
Nectarous Mango blossoms
During dewy spring dawns

In hues of yellow
And carnation pinks
Tints of clouds at dusk
In shades of inks
Here in satin sheets
Serenely muted
There in eternal depths
Memories rooted

A Ghost Presence

A ghost of a reflection that once was
Or maybe it never was
Perhaps meant to remain
Unseen Unheard Unfelt

Like the shadow that always is
But devoid of a presence
Never really perceived

Like a mirage
That is never supposed to be acknowledged

Fitting fittingly into the reflection of an irrelevant mirror
That reflects everything and everyone
But never a presence of its own

A Little Something:

This piece was actually written as a text reply. The reply was prompted from a 3-year old photograph posted by V, clicked during one of our lunch outings.

Since I was the only one who wasn't visible in the photograph, she asked if everyone else was waiting for me (though I am generally punctual and probably never the last one to reach any place 😁). A could find my reflection in the photograph and replied that I was the one clicking the photograph, wearing a mask (🤭). V too...then located my reflection in the mirror (I was right behind C and A).

I would have missed locating myself in that photograph. It was too vague of a presence after all.

That was when I texted this piece as the reply.

The Lavender Box

The travel-memory boxes glanced
From the glass shelves like every other day.
Calling out to me with their ounce of hope,
As if they have lot to say.

I picked up the one covered with lavender satin.
It was from the summer of 2017.
The inner fabric was still bright
But the exteriors had faded,
From the sun's golden light.

The box had a receipt of the cafe
The one with the dartboard from across the street
The printed letters had ashened
But the handwritten message on it
Still smelled sweet.

A letter, a ribbon, few bills,
And that leaf from the park,
Some muted, some still same,
And few with some marks,
Chronicled the anecdotes, the conversations,
And the stories,
Like they would never let go
Of those days of glories.

The faded fabric and the marks
Didn't matter anymore,
When the travel-memory box
Brought its core to the fore.

Aren't memories too, mysteriously alike?
We think they have faded into oblivion,
But a trifling touch paints everything radiant
Within a second's strike.

An Anecdote Away 3: The Tale of the Sunflowers

The bus would pass by those fields everyday. Except for Sundays and important holidays. The streets and stories that led and passed by those fields were all so similar, with just bits and pieces of everyday differences sprinkled in to make the world believable.

The bus was a world by itself; it had stories, music, lives that were lived (and some that existed), redundant routines, and a collection of exotic exceptions every now and then. It was my first day in that bus, or what was going to be a part of my world for the next 4 years. It was the first day of my school, new school at that time.

*********

Our school was outside the main town, or should I say amidst a small clearing of sorts surrounded by rows and rows of eucalyptus trees. There were no machined-looking buildings (often termed as modern and simple), like the ones one would imagine as a school building, straight-lined with no character-defining details.

We had octagonal cottage-like structures, there were clusters of three to four cottages, and such clusters were spread all across the campus. The cottages in these clusters housed classrooms, offices, and other necessary facilities. To go from your classroom to science lab, or art class, or the library, one would take a stroll among those beautiful trees that filtered the sunrays that wafted a mild scent of eucalyptus bark and leaves. The nearest small town was 20 minutes away. So, I used to call that place middle of nowhere and everywhere (MONE – suggested pronunciation: like how Monet is pronounced).
I loved the new place for it was straight out of a story book.
It was my first year in that school; I had transferred from my previous/childhood school which was right in the busy heart of town. I loved the new place for it was straight out of a story book. However, I did have my apprehensions because I would be so far and so almost-immediately-unreachable distance away from my parents, my home. I had only been once before to the school on the day when I had my entrance test scheduled. This was my second time, but first one alone. Thoughts, rather concerns of kinds, laced with hints of excitement were all over my mind. I missed my old school, my parents, and even the town.

While the nestled thoughts played like a movie with too many plots played on my mind, I looked at the roads, fields, and houses through the bus window. The bus was packed, rather over-packed, with students (who had already found their friends) and their animated and whispered talks. I heard the voices but not the conversations.
After about 15 milestones, I witnessed something that would make me await for them every spring and summer, probably for life.
The bus kept moving on routinely, and with each passing milestone, I knew school wasn’t very far away. I didn’t want the milestones to stop; I wanted to go on and on with the bus, even though the journey wasn’t exactly comfortable. After about 15 milestones, I witnessed something that would make me await for them every spring and summer, probably for life.

In an unassuming and calm neighbourhood, there was a vast sprawling field of majestic sunflowers, golden and dreamlike. The view was absolutely sublime. I have always loved sunflowers but had never seen a vast field with so many sunflowers shining in all their glory. Thankfully, I was seated towards the western side which allowed me to view the face of the flowers as they looked at the sun. That also meant, while returning I would be on the eastern side and could see the sunflowers facing the sun again. Destiny sure was having its way--- or atleast so it felt at that moment.
They say one needs to meditate to achieve thoughtlessness or a single line of thought. If that is true, I was possibly in a state of mediation then.
They say one needs to meditate to achieve thoughtlessness or a single line of thought. If that is true, I was possibly in a state of mediation then. I was completely enamored by the sunflowers and had let go of all the thoughts that were there until few seconds ago. I had completely submitted my thoughts to that magnificence.

The thoughts of the field stayed with me even when we crossed that and reached the school. While returning, I eagerly waited for the flowers again. Days passed by and vacation arrived sooner than expected. During vacations, I found myself missing them. Though I knew that they won’t be there when we return to school after vacations, I still awaited that field. During winters the field was filled with mustard flowers and they too looked splendid basking in the warmth of the winter rays. And they would tell me that spring is just around the corner and soon I would meet the sunflowers again. I would smile along with the mustard flowers while waiting for the sunflowers to arrive.
And they would tell me that spring is just around the corner and soon I would meet the sunflowers again.
Four years in that school passed by and I would wait the entire year’s bus journey for those couple of minutes (to and fro) of sunflowers during the few days of summer. I remember the roads that we took everyday, the mini farms, the hillocks, temples, and the conversations that I had with friends. But the way I remember the sunflowers is different than everything else.

With the changing times and vanishing landscapes in the name of development, I don’t know whether that field where the sunflowers smiled and loved would still be there. But I can’t imagine of anything else there. Every summer of my life and sometimes during days of other seasons too, I keep remembering my sunflowers. And will always do.

Retrouvailles

In the days of the sun
And the nights during the moons
On the roads with the clouds
And in the sheds of the skies' shrouds
Air and Water breathed
Of memories and moments...
That are, in rare silk of time, wreathed.

Memory-filled Pages

It was a land of magic
A land of unknown
But more familiar than anything
She had ever seen or known

In gardens of possibilities
The seas let her sail
Every walk through the flowing pages
Told her about a dreamy tale

Words so soft and eternal
They weaved in a potent loom
Like between shadow and sun
When the loving Azaleas bloom

The essence of the earthy vanilla
Lighted her imagination in the cozy nooks
Where she delved in the memory-filled pages
Of her treasure chest of books

================================================

A little something:

Azaleas, considered as a birth flower in some regions, signifies happiness, passion, and positivity. While most flowering plants either bloom yearlong or in a particular season, Azaleas bloom and bloom again: in Spring, a part of Summer, and sometimes during Autumns. This aspect of the flowers are motivating and inspiring. In addition, I find it lovely that they too like the morning Sun.

525600

Another Year Another Sunset
And a bouquet of varied moments
That stay strewn in my thoughts
And as pages
In my memory laced books

But it was not just another moment
It was like that year
Yet nothing like that year
And I reminisce every 31536000 of it.

Summers That Have Been

I sit besides the fire and think
Of all that I've seen
Of meadows, flowers, and butterflies
In summers that have been

But all the while
I sit and think
Of times that were before
I listen for returning feet
And voices at the door

After-note:

2 years already,
Still feels just yesterday!
Time... and its play!!

A little behind the scenes:

This piece was written probably somewhere around 2015-2016ish. I found this in one of my old bags... while I was browsing through the unintended archives.

I do not exactly remember the story behind the write-up. However, from the lines, I think I was thinking about the past summer (probably the summer of 2015). And every time I kept wondering about that, something of the then present life must have brought me back from my thoughts.

The time I found it again: April 07, 2023, Friday, 03:12 AM IST.

Kiss of Adore

As the evening glided
With a soothing pace
The memories whispered
Of tales twined in pastel green lace

Chronicles of the breathing sky
And memoirs of the balmy breeze
Narrated the stories of the one
Who lives across the seas

It reminded me of your dreamy smile
And the sweet kiss of adore
And of glorious moments that we treasure

It is You

The cherry blossoms in March
Have always been
An enthralling vivid wish
And they still are

But the winter aroma
Of January
Had a stunning coral-ish charm

One where
The warmth of adorned moments
And vibrant memories
Were more apparent
Than the chilly evening air

It probably should not
Still it makes sense to me
For it is with You

Preserved

Few unspoken words
veiled by the demure lips..

Some unexpressed emotions
peeping through the silent smiles..

And a hint of unprofessed feelings
waiting behind those stolen glances....

Old out-of-context photos
probably express a lot more than
they were supposed to.

Would it have been different,
if we were more aware?
Or was it always meant to be the way it has?

The Smiling Fish

Most often than not, I end up not clicking pictures. I would end up eating the food or spend hours together brooding over a scene and the thought of an "instagram worthy" picture would not even cross my mind. The same happens when I'm travelling or visiting a place of interest. I tend to experience the place or the moment more through my eyes than through the camera lens. Not that I never click pictures... I do and I have a fair share of those too... but there are not as much photos as there could have been.

That day I was visiting an aquatic museum. You know those kinds where you walk through the glass tunnels with the marine life swimming over your heads... yes, those ones.It was a surreal feeling. You very well know that you are not inside the sea, but that won't stop you from the feeling of being underwater. I feel, going alone to such places is a big perk because, that allows you to experience the place solely, while taking all its essence as it was meant to be.

So, there I was, engrossed and awestruck with the beauty and the grandeur of the sea. The shoal of fish were going on with their usual.Though it was a glass wall separating us, it felt as if either the fish were not able to see the other side or they simply ignored so many human beings being there. It must be the later reason because, everyday they witness the same scene. But it wasn't the same for me.  I was completely transfixed with the magic.

It was just the entrance section. After a long while of being there, I realized that the human faces around me has changed... probably multiple times now. I thought about moving to the next sections then. I decided to give a last glance around and be then on the move. That is when I noticed it.

An adorable fish moved across twice. I felt as if it was looking at me. It had a smile too - or so it seemed to me. I was overwhelmed with joy. It was a funny feeling. It was as if the fish was playing hide and seek. It had that mischievous smile, like when you are hiding in plain sight and you want to test whether the seeker has taken notice of you or not.

I was intrigued by the playfulness of the fish. Thankfully, after a few moments, I remembered to click a picture of that scene. Well, the picture did not capture the entire event as I would have liked it to, but it did capture enough to rekindle my memory to that event of that day. That's what pictures are for right... just to rekindle the experience as a reminder that you have lived through such a moment.

I ended up spending a few more minutes there - until the smiling fish moved to the depths of the sea. With that amazing experience at the very beginning itself, I went ahead to explore the further sections of the aquarium. Every section had it's own marvel in place. Yes, I clicked a few pictures too, though they would probably not do enough justice to the beauty of the entire experience. What a bright beautiful day it was!

‘Bliss’ful Memories

#FoodieTour
It was a lazy afternoon. There were things for which my attention was more needed, but at that moment the only thing I could think of is to let everything just be! I thought of stepping out of my house and exploring the afternoon in its full splendor. I started walking, sans a destination. But, then again, why think of a destination when you can have a beautiful journey. I witnessed the warm breeze melting with the fragrance of the flowers, mused over the clouds forming and reforming, and beheld the afternoon folding its crease to a beautiful twilight.

Roving, I reached near the Forum Value mall. I had no intentions of going inside the mall, probably because I did not have any rationale to be there. Nonetheless, I still moved in. There were no activities going on in the mall, which otherwise is a quite regular thing in the Forum Value. There, standing in all its glory, was Bliss, the chocolate lounge. The sight of so many varieties of chocolates at one place was reason enough for me to walk in. I had never been to Bliss before (every time I visited the mall prior to this specific visit, was for some work. And by work, I mean for only getting/purchasing essentials, and never for leisure stroll). However, this was a different jaunt.

Bliss’s appearance theme was chocolate; no surprises there. The seating area had comfortable couches. I was given the menu as soon as I seated myself. I certainly needed more time to zero in on the flavor of the chocolates. Hence, I opted for a spiced hot chocolate and a mushroom sandwich to start with. The hot chocolate arrived before I could decide on a single chocolate flavor. The sandwich arrived immediately after. I gave my decision-making forces some rest and immersed in the delicacy. The sandwich bread was wonderfully soft. The cheese melted into the mushroom slices, giving it a rich, creamy texture and a slight nutty zing. The show stealer, however, was the spiced hot chocolate. The amalgamation of the rich dark chocolate with the hot milk was lip-smacking. The subtle hint of the cinnamon aroma and its sweet-spicy taste elevated the experience of the beverage to a whole another level. The purple twilight, the amazing sandwich and the heavenly hot chocolate was a perfect combination one could ask for. That defined the word ‘Bliss’. How aptly named!

If I would not have been so full, I would have had another of the hot chocolates without a single thought. I had to get some of their chocolates too. The staff at the counter helped me in choosing the flavors of the chocolate, which I packed for home. They were equally delightful. That entire journey, if I may call it so, was sort of serendipitous. Every subsequent time I visited Bliss, hot chocolate (spiced, simple dark, and white being the different varieties) became my usual order. Though it was not a first of a kind of my “journey”s, and certainly not my only visit to Bliss, it definitely was a memorable one.

Memories are enigmatic. They can make us relieve cherished moments time and again. Life is all about treasuring old memories, venturing into new journeys, making new memories there, and then cherishing them forever. Let life be redolent with memories. After all, it’s One Life To Live!

--------------------------------------------------

P.S. : The chronicled experience here entails for my visit to Bliss-the Chocolate Lounge years back (2012-2013-ish).

About Me

My photo
As a blogger, one of the things I am often asked is "How/ When did you get started with all this?" For as long as my memory takes me back, I have always found myself pondering about a plethora of things. I have always loved reflecting on the small but wonderful aspects of life. Ipsita Contemplates has been very special and I love to get the opportunity to share my musings, my thoughts, and my perceptions with you. It is also a way to appreciate the essence of Life!
